New Face Appears in Victory Lane as Old Faces Retain Chase Spots
The Pennsylvania 500 marked the 21st race for NASRAC’s A-1 division as the top class looked to tame the three corner beast in rural PA. While Johnny Williams was the dominant driver of the day, leading just over half of the race, Kashvinder Mann took down his first NASRAC checkered after coming from fifth to first on lap 197. Mann, the lone Singaporean in the field, sits 32nd in the standings, but the 73 Chevrolet has certainly picked up the pace as of late, leaving Kashvinder with a three-race average finish of 5.33. Williams’ Toyota came second in the event, allowing the Toyota driver to move up two spots in the standings. The Los Angeles driver is now 190 points behind Vyn Horn, who placed fourth in the event despite starting from midpack, and looks to be a contender for the series title with three wins, nine top fives, and twelve top tens. Fourteenth place man Dylan Choquette continued his strong run to the Chase by picking up another top five from third. Choquette’s Dodge is close to a win, and with only 150 points to make up, the driver of the 148 could make the cut after race 26 in Richmond. Rounding out the top five was Brad Daniels, a two-time winner on the NASRAC tour, who now sits fifteenth in the standings. However, with 254 markers to make up, Daniels will have to continue to collect top five finishes if he wants to run for the championship this season. Tim Reeve, driving a Ford sponsored by TheHotLap.com, placed sixth in the Pocono race, returning to his usual form after a few off runs. No longer in an alliance with Philip Hampton, Reeve can concentrate on his own effort and make a run for the first ever NASRAC title. The bottom of the Chase standings did not shake up, as Gavin Sadler, bcohio2001, and Eric Liberato retained their positions in the final three playoff positions. The trio of drivers all had disappointing days in Pennsylvania, with respective finishes of 37th, 36th, and 22nd. In addition to Dylan Choquette, Markus Ager, who sits in thirteenth, poses a threat to steal one of the prestigious Chase spots, sitting 69 points behind twelfth palce man Liberato. With only five races remaining until the Chase for the NASRAC Cup begins, the A-1 division will make its final right turns of the year in Watkins Glen. The prestigious road course which has played host to a variety of open wheel and sports car formulas prior to stock cars will challenge even the best of NASRAC. With fuel mileage coming into play, the Glen could be a pivotal race as far as the points standings go, as new faces hope to take advantage of better strategies and have their chance in the limelight, while the series leaders look to build momentum as they run for the title.

Series: NASRAC A-1 Series
Location: Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA (2.5-mile oval)
Start/Finish: 6th/19th (Running, completed 200 of 200 laps)
Winner: Kashvinder Mann (Chevrolet)

Aaron Bean had an unspectacular outing in the Pennsylvania 500 A1 Series race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA.

“We just couldn’t get our car to handle today,” said Bean after finishing 19th at the 2.5-mile oval. “I had about one run at the very beginning where I felt like I could move around on the track a little bit. But other than that, we were either way too loose or too tight. To come out of here with a 19th is disappointing, but really isn’t all that bad, all things considered.”

Bean’s crew threw everything at the car to fix the handling issue – but nothing, including wedge, track bar, and air pressure adjustments seemed to remedy the problem. While the car’s handling seemed to even out after a pit stop on lap 182, Bean ran out of time and finished a disappointing 19th…

“Pocono bit us in the ass,” said Bean. “Both races here this year, we were dialed in at the beginning of the weekend, but we just lost something, setup-wise, in the race.”

Bean dropped from third to fourth in A1 Series point-standings, but has a 351-point cushion between himself and 13th-place Markus Ager – the first driver on the outside looking in of the 12-driver Chase for the Championship – with only five races remaining before the Chase field is set.

The NASRAC A-1 Cup series Cup Series heads next to the Centurion Boats at The Glen at Watkins Glen International Raceway where Bean is looking to duplicate his Top-10 finish earlier this year on the only other road course on the A1 Series schedule at Infineon Raceway…

Closes Gap on Horn, Johnson

Date: Sept. 2, 2008
Event: Allstate 400 at The Brickyard (Round 20 of 36)
Series: NASRAC A-1 Series
Location: Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, IN (2.5-mile oval)
Start/Finish: 21st/6th (Running, completed 159 of 160 laps)
Winner: Jeremy Hanson (Chevrolet)

Aaron Bean came into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Inidanapolis, Indiana, looking to continue his season of consisitancy, and left with his 13th Top-10 finish – tying him for the most on the season to date. Bean, driver of the No. 108 Toyota Camry for Project Shadow started 21st and hung inside the top-10 for most of the race’s 160 laps on the 2.5 mile oval, despite starting mid-field in 21st.

“We made some changes after qualifying,” said Bean, bouncing back from a disappointing 37th-place finish at Chicagoland. “Apparentley, the changes made the difference, because I had no problems cutting through traffic.”

For Bean, who’s 13th Top-10 now places him in a prime position to clinch his appearance in the Chase, the day could have astually been better…

“I won’t kid you, we were a top-10 car all day, but at the half-way point – I really though we had something for the leaders. I think I lead at least a lap at that point.”

In the end though, Bean finished as the first car one lap down.

“That’s the disappointing part,” said Bean. “We had a good run like that once again, but finishing a lap down…it’s disappointing.”

The NASRAC A-1 Cup series Cup Series heads next to the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway where Bean struggled earlier this season, finishing 21st…

Pre-Race of Indy by Johnny Williams

The Race to the chase has now heated up with only 7 races left until the chase begins after Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond. Earlier today, the pole sitter for today’s race Phillip Hampton has guaranteed victory for tonights race. Hampton has held the pole four other times this season but has failed to win any of the races and his best finish while starting on the pole was 12th, earlier this season at Auto Club Speedway. Hampton has also finished 32nd, 28th, and 47th (dead last) from the pole this season as well. He hasn’t finished better than 6th this season in the process only amassing 5 top 10 finishes. On the outside pole for tonight’s race is Johnny Williams, who has 3 wins this season, 8 top 5’s and 11 top 10’s and is coming off a rebound finish at Chicagoland of 8th position after finishing off the lead lap the previous 2 races (42nd and 34th). Contenders for the championship Tim Reeve and Vyn Horn also start in the top 5 at 3rd and 5th respectively. While James Johnson in the “rowdy.com” number 85 ford has a little bit of a mountain to climb coming from the outside of row 6 starting in 12th.

An interesting storyline for tonight’s race will be the tires, remember that this track wasn’t built for stock cars, it was built for open wheel cars. We have seen stock cars have trouble with tire wear here in the past, let’s see if it has a factor on the race tonight.

Race to the Chase Heats Up by Eric Liberato at http://www.rabbit-racing.blogspot.com/
As the A1 division rolls on into the second half of NASRAC’s inaugural season, only seven races remain until the Chase begins. After the LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland, the points battle continues to be fierce as many drivers vie to be included in the championship hunt. Vyn Horn, driver of the #109 TheHotLap.com Chevrolet, has been the dominant driver in A1 all season long, but a dismal run in the Windy City left the British ace with less of a lead in the standings. Horn’s main rival, James Johnson, also from London, had an average run in Chicago, picking up a 27th place finish. Fortunately for the former, Johnson only 70 points with his less-than-stellar performance. Johnny Williams, a three-time winner on the tour, sits third in the points table. A top ten in the LifeLock.com 400 allowed the Californian to gain one position, passing Toyota driver Aaron Bean. Despite a performance that was nothing to write home about, PH Motorsports pilot Tim Reeve moved up from eighth to fifth in the standings, making him the biggest winner of those in Chase contention. Luther Walker, the lone Dodge driver in the top twelve, Joe Michaels, legoulos50, and Adam Lyons comprise positions six through nine, all sitting comfortably in the Chase. Approximately 100 points back from Lyons sits the Ford of Gavin Sadler, who picked up one position to vault himself into tenth. Sadler leads Eric Liberato, also driving for the Dearborn, Michigan manufacture, by a mere four points after the Massachusetts-based driver picked up a third place finish in the most recent event. Rounding out the Chase positions is bcohio2001 who sits nine back from Liberato. For the final three in the top twelve, staying in the elite positions will be tough, as drivers like Markus Ager, Philip Hampton, Dylan Choquette, and Brad Daniels look to turn their operations around and come from behind to have a shot at the first NASRAC title. One of the most presitigious events in American auto racing, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, is next for the A1 class. Different from any other oval due to it’s four straights and four corners, the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway will test the best and separate the contenders from the pretenders as NASRAC’s premier division enters a critical time in the championship hunt.
