X2X Motorsports Rebuilding Again
X2X Motorsports is considered the best team ever in Nasrac, but why is it that it always seems to be rebuilding or going through leadership changes? The team has rebuilt is lineup 3 times and had 5 leaders in its existence.
The team started in Season 1 Johnny Williams created the team, named X2X after the computer system to represent working together of all the components. During its 1st five seasons the team was consistentely expanding and winning races and championships, but in Season 6 over half the lineup had retired including Johnny Williams as Phillip Bupp took over.
Bupp rebuilt the team by hiring AA drivers in Season 6 before becoming a AAA only team again in Season 7. The team was still winning races and won the Championship in season 6. However in the beginning of Season 7 Bupp announced he would be leaving to start his own team Bupp Enterprises. While the team was thriving it was of no real concern that he was leaving, until about half the team left with him.
While Johnny Williams returned and then left midway through season 8 the team was at a 4 member lineup when Tim Reeve took over. He already had a second team, then called TR Motorsports now called Sith Racing. He simply moved most of the AAA drivers to X2X to rebuild it that time. While his run lasted until Season 11 when he announced he would be leaving for the struggling 1Up/Bailey operation, now Speed of Light Racing.
While this was seemingly no big deal even though Reeve had been there since the beginning, and the team had won two championships with him as leader. Black Mamba was the selected replacement and the team won the Season 11 Championship with Kashvinder. Then throughout season 12 the team was solid but didn’t challenge and Mamba went inactive.
Now Defender has taken control of the team that is down in the lineup numbers again with 1 AA and 5 AAA. Defender is faced with the task of rebuilding for the third time, and he is the 5th leader of the team. The question is why does a team with the history of X2X have to rebuild so often and lose its leader?
Well, could it be that some people prefer to be underdogs? You would think X2X would have people beating down the doors to sign. ” I think that maybe its just that the team works in cycles,” Said former leader Phillip Bupp. The team builds up then plateaus, wins alot and then it all falls apart. “I think that for some people its only fun to be the best for so long before you want to go out and try to take on the giant,” Said Reeve, “I won alot there as an owner and driver and eventually I wanted to go out and start with a team that had little and try to beat them.”
“While x2x is stationary, everyone else is expanding and recruiting for the future and blowing them by,” Said Bupp, “ I realized that and Tim Reeve and me got people we felt were going to be the future of Nasrac and wound up recruiting future champs which gave the team a sort of renaissance when I was leader, and later Tim.”
“If I had to give x2x advice for now, they should go back down to a and aa and recruit to rebuild the team,” Said Bupp. “I think that is probably there best option now,” Said Reeve, “With the rules the way they are now you can’t have a partner team like I had which let me have a constant source of drivers.”
We all hope that the team will come back and prove they are still the best, but it will take work on the part of the Defender. “Fortunately it’s pretty easy to recruit for X2X with the kinds of stats they have,” Said Reeve.
